Founded in 1986 on the still hot ashes of The Sisters of Mercy, The Mission, lead by Wayne Hussey and Craig Adams, had known a well-earned glory until 1990, then they sunk numerous times with bad albums and incessant band reshuffles. Following the release of the average album "Aura" at the end of 2001, we saw the band split again with the departure of Craig Adams, right in the middle of a tour in South America, followed by the release of the umpteenth and bland compilation of rarities and unreleased material called "Aura Delight".

We have interviewed you many times since 1985, we have seen the best and the worst moments of The Mission. The release of "Aura" is certainly not one of the great moment in the Mission's history. What did happen during these last months?

Well, I would have to argue the fact that the recording and release of 'Aura' wasn't a great moment for The Mission. It's a good album and was received very warmly by fans, and it was a very good experience recording the album. It's just that since its release, events have occured that have cast shadows. The last year has been a diffulcult year, both on a personal and professional level, but I am still here and The Mission still exists.

The Mission doesn't exist anymore as a band, it's not the first time. Are you difficult to live with during tours?
I don't think I am diffulcult to live or work with but that is a question that would be better answered by other people.

Do you think Craig will come back?
No.

In 1987/1990 you were at the top, you played at the Wembley Arena and it was sold-out. Now, it seems to be more "difficult", the venues you play in are really smaller. What do you see when you look back at your entire career?
I am one of the lucky ones. I have managed to sustain a living through making music for a very long time now. It is a privilege to be able to make music for a living. I did enjoy a period in the 80's and early 90's when we were relatively successful and that was a good experience to have, but I am still here doing the thing that I love, that is success in its own right.

Ian Astbury from The Cult is now The Doors' singer. What could happen to you... becoming the new Beatles' singer? The Sisters Of Mercy's singer?!
I think I coudn't sing other people's songs, that's why I write my own and have my own band. I would be unable to sing other people's songs...

How long have you been living in the USA?
Long enough. Well, I lived in the US from Jan 1997 until the beginning of last year, 5 years.

Do you miss England?
Sometimes I do.

How old are your children now?
Dylan is 9 in March and Hannah is 15.

What kind of music do they like?
Hannah likes the boy bands, pop music mainly, whilst Dylan likes Enya, A-Teens, and her dad.

How do you see the future of the Mission?
It's diffulcult to answer that with any clarity at the moment. I have been on tour for a year and I'm just relaxing now and starting to write some new songs. Let's see where the new songs take us... I can't make any promises but I would like to believe that The Mission will record another album...
