L'Armée des anges
La Résurrection
de Jason Ash
Thomas Fenton/Jamal Igle
[Les Humanoïdes Associés]

Behind a very clichéd cover, and to tell you the truth, not a very pleasant one, we find that "L'Armée des anges" is nevertheless very enticing. This is a sombre story of children's kidnapping with a rather sleazy, and even sordid atmosphere, some "shocking" scenes, an investigator victim of curious incidents, the plot unfolds like a paranormal thriller that would be close to an alternative (because it's rather "hardcore") episode of X-Files. This reference is obvious because the construction of the scenario and the setting of the different characters, as well as the universe they live in, are based on the operation mode of a (good!) series: the story quickly becomes breathtaking. We shouldn't have to wait for long before the following books are published because the authors probably don't spend much time on the drawing... Jamal Igle chose to draw in a quick and sketchy way, he's not very careful and precise on the characters' aspect. Even if the colours, the backgrounds and the staging are classic and well done, we have to admit that we found it hard to recognize some characters' face which changes in every box... On the other hand, the story is well engaged and the suspense is perfectly mastered. The story goes in New-Orleans in our times, one week after the disappearance of a little girl, a man is found crucified in a park. In the same time, another child also disappears... Jason Ash who deals with these two events is quickly drawn into something very intriguing, far from his own factual references.
